Vizcaya Park Update September 17, 2011

Where have I been? Don't you worry. I am still here. I checked in over at the park a few times since my post a month ago, but nothing seemed to have changed. Yesterday, however, I noticed a new area of the park under development. I guess the main building is mostly done for now (at least externally), but an area right next to it, to the south, has massive mounds of dirt and backhoes and tractor trailers there. Gate was open and workers were doing something.

Vizcaya Park Update August 16, 2011

I stopped by the park during a bike ride last night. Personally, I can't tell if anything has been done. The gates were locked but it was 7 pm and the sun was setting. Anyone see any difference between these two photos and the ones from two weeks ago?

Vizcaya Park Update August 2, 2011

Tonight the Vizcaya Communities (which is really called Bluegrass Lakes for all you hardcore residents) had a little party down by the park entrance for National Night Out. The party was to start at 6pm and end at 9pm, but around 5:30, a tornado warning was issued for somewhere in northern Broward. And it started to rain pretty steadily. Oh, and don't forget Tropical Storm Emily is on her way, too!

Anyway, a little after 6, the rain stopped and the sun sort of came out, so I walked over with my wife and youngest son. Hot dogs, water, popcorn, chips, cotton candy, and a bounce house--standard fare. One of Miramar's Commissioners showed up too and was shaking hands and chatting with the people. Oh yeah, 1000% humidity and I was sweating like a pig, so we left after 45 minutes or so. Still nice.

So yeah, I did take a few pictures of the park. You didn't expect less from me, did you? I'm not sure I see any difference from a week ago, but that doesn't mean work didn't get done. Here are two pictures of what one guy that seemed to have some knowledge was calling the clubhouse. The third picture shows something that is definitely new--someone crashed into the fence! I don't know any details, just making the obvious observation. Later.

Vizcaya Park Update July 23, 2011

Yesterday I stopped by Vizcaya Park for a few shots before a very long day. Yes, that is why I am posting them one day later. The gate was wide open and there were half a dozen workers building something on the roof in the center of the building (you can see them). They had a crane of some sort helping them, perhaps taking cinder blocks up to the roof. You can see they have a flag pole and American Flag out there too.

Vizcaya Park Update July 15, 2011

Yeah, I know it's July 17th. Trust me. I took these two pictures two days ago. Just didn't get a chance to publish them until now. I didn't see a ton of progress since last time I was there, but it does appear the building is slightly more complete. And the gate was open with at least one piece of construction machinery moving around.

Vizcaya Park Update July 4, 2011

Happy Independence Day! Went for a bike ride with the family and snapped the photos below. I was surprised to find the trespassing gate wide open as I approached. Looking a little more closely, I found that to be the case because there were people actually working. A few trucks, a crane and some other equipment. I guess no rest, not even on the Fourth of July!

Anyway, definite progress over the past two weeks as you can see from the photos.

Vizcaya Park Update June 21, 2011

Stopped by the Vizcaya Park construction site this morning around 7:30 and it was already hopping. Well, at least there was more activity than I have seen before. The beeping of heavy machinery backing up and the roar of a bulldozer's engine did fill the air though.

It appeared to me that the main building that they started building made some additional progress. It's hard to tell but there may be more than one building there. In addition, the bulldozer I mentioned was pushing dirt around on a separate part of the field, so maybe they are starting to work on other areas as well.

Far away shot

Building progress

There's the bulldozer I mentioned.

Vizcaya Park Update June 10, 2011

Yeah, I know. Two days in a row. Since Broward schools closed yesterday, I'll be working from home a bit more often. I took my kids to McDonald's around noon and on the way down Honey Hill Road, a large flatbed truck passed me, carrying a steamroller into the park. So basically something is getting flattened. On the way home, this dump truck passed me going the other direction out of the park. Not sure if it delivered something or was removing something, but it wasn't a social call, I'd assume.

As for the picture, it's the best you get while driving at 45 mph 35 mph.

Vizcaya Park Update June 9, 2011

Just a few quick pictures. I was by the park around 8am this morning and there were already half a dozen cars there and some guys working. It looks like the building is making some progress. I'm not sure what those wood panels are, but they are new too.

And so you can see just how far from the park entrance that building is. There's a backhoe too.

Vizcaya Park Update June 4, 2011

I was on the way home from Publix and my squinty eyes noticed that the chain-link fence half a mile away was open in front of the park. So I decided to take a few quick pictures. There is definite progress as the building they are erecting is substantially taller than last time I stopped by. There were also a handful of workers over in the construction area. It's tough to know exactly what's going on as they were on the far side of the park, and you remember those trespassing and felony warnings right? Here you go.

Vizcaya Park Update May 21, 2011

I stopped by Vizcaya Park this morning. There were several construction vehicles parked on the far side near the Turnpike. You could also see a ton of cinder blocks ready to do some building and a flag pole with the American Flag flying on it. Definite Progress!

Vizcaya Park Update May 18, 2011

This was not one of the ones that passed me! This is from flickr.com
I was leaving the Vizcaya community through the back gate this morning and two cement mixers passed me going the other way. Yep, I saw them go to Vizcaya Park at the end of Honey Hill Road. For what, I don't know, but they were not tourists. I'll take some photos soon.

Vizcaya Park Update May 8, 2011

I haven't seen too much construction traffic passing the Vizcaya communities entrance, but I decided to go and check out the park yesterday and see what was new. It appears some work is slowly getting done, at least work that is visible from behind the new trespassing and felony warnings posted on the chain-link fence. There are lights and holes and roads and a few construction vehicles that seem to be ready for some action. Can't wait to show you more.

Vizcaya Park

I have another blog about Miramar, Florida. Perhaps you've stumbled upon it. This one, however, is going to be dedicated to the park at the end of Honey Hill Road, just past the Vizcaya communities. I wrote about this park before, and in fact this photo is from there, but now that construction projects and progress are approved and under way, it's time for a dedicated chronicling. Go over and read Commissioner Samuels letter yourself to see what is planned. Should be a spectacular park when it's all finished!

So I'll do my best to add information and photos here as I see progress. Thanks.
